Scale models of the ETSAV on show at the new City of Architecture and Heritage in Paris
The Scale Model Workshop of the School of Architecture of the Vallès (ETSAV) has constructed 35 scale models for the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine (City of Architecture and Heritage) in Paris, the world’s first museum devoted to the evolution of architecture and urban planning. The museum, which is housed in the Palais de Chaillot, officially opened in the French capital on 17 September.
The scale models, the majority of which are made of plaster, reproduce emblematic buildings designed by renowned architects, such as Le Corbusier’s l’Unité d'habitation in Marseille; a building on the Rue des Amiraux by Henry Sauvage; the Tour Albert, the first skyscraper to be built in Paris, by Édouard Albert; and the Antigone neighbourhood project in Montpellier, by Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill. There are also scale models of murals. The works of the UPC Scale ModelC Scale Model Workshop are on show in the modern and contemporary architecture (1851-2001) gallery and in the mural gallery in this new museum, which has a total surface area of 23,000 square metres.
The team of the Scale Model Workshop, led by professor Laura Baringo, is recognized for its reproductions of several buildings by Antoni Gaudí, which are exhibited at the Espai Gaudí (Gaudí Space) at the top of Casa Milà.
