The UPC is the top technical university in Spain and is among the top 500 universities in the 2015-2016 THE rankings
The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is positioned in the 401-500 range worldwide and ranks as the top technical university in Spain in the 2015-2016 Times Higher Education World University Rankings published on 30 September. The UPC is in the 6-9 range in Spain and in the 4-5 range in Catalonia.

The UPC had not been included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) since 2011-2012. In the current edition the University’s strong points are International Outlook, Citations and Industry Income.
The THE WUR, which this year have doubled the number of institutions listed from 400 to 800, aims to provide an overview of universities based on 13 indicators designed to represent university activity as widely as possible. These indicators are related to research, teaching, knowledge transfer and internationalisation.
The rankings by subject, including Engineering and Technology (previously grouped together), are due to be published in the next few weeks.
Although the list of indicators and weightings is the same as in previous editions of the THE WUR, in the current edition some changes have been made. In addition to the increase in the number of institutions ranked, the bibliographic reference database is now Scopus rather than the Web of Science. Also, this is the first time that the rankings have been drawn up exclusively by Times Higher Education staff, after a long period in which the data were obtained and processed by Thomson Reuters, managers of the Web of Science database.
